SOMO Labs for July — 7/16 Co-sponsored by NLI!

Have never been to SOMO before? Join us, then, for an SOMO Intro Lab from 6-7:30 pm in which you’ll experience a snippet of positive psychology, the science of success, well-being, and happiness along with an evolutionary account for why it’s important we learn to think differently at this point in human history + a call-to-action to be a change-agent in your social- and professional-networks (i.e. your life!).

and then stay on, if you’d like . . .

for a SOMO Mojo Lab from 7:45-9:15 pm {in which we’ll present a new nugget of scientific research on well-being, success, and happiness.}

The topic for this month’s MOJO lab is on the SCIENCE of APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY. SOMO Leader Sonya Pryor-Jones will lead us in an exercise she’s designed called Have You Met Cleveland? (HYMC).

HYMC is a new civic design enterprise that is inspired by Cleveland’s assets, fueled by Appreciative Inquiry, and led by youth!  Equipping youth with Appreciative Inquiry as a tool to highlight the community’s assets, while exposing how we thrive!

This initiative had a soft launch in September 2011 in partnership with NewBridge and administered surveys to the general public during Ingenuity Fest.  An additional cohort of youth in the Young Audiences ArtWorks program were trained in Spring 2012.  Over 300 surveys have been administered during community events and with partners like SOMO, Cleveland Leadership Center, and Cleveland State University, and youth have interviewed community leaders from the areas media, banking, non-profit, and arts & culture.

HYMC goals are 1)to engage the community while highlighting people and places 2) capture the thoughts and opinions of as many Clevelanders as possible about what makes us thrive  3) gain a concrete understanding of the community’s hopes and dreams for our future while supporting youth in their own venture development.

Join us on Monday, July 16th as we take a deeper dive into the conversation. Come take the survey and  learn what we has been uncovered already in the survey, the impact of the Appreciative Inquiry tool on our youth, and to share your thoughts and feelings about Cleveland’s assets.

Join us for a mental workout (or two!). And bring a friend.
